LITURGICAL MINISTRY

The Liturgical Committee

The membership of this Ministry comprises coordinators of the choirs, lectors, altar servers or individuals named by them. The group meets every month to read the Word and to select hymns to be sung throughout the Sunday celebrations.

Lectors

The readers or lectors play an important role in the Liturgy of the Word as they proclaim and share the Word of God with the people gathered. They read the First and Second readings and the General Intercessions at Mass. A lector must have a passion for Scripture; an ability to interpret and understand Scripture; and, sufficient public speaking skills to proclaim the Word to the assembly. Meetings and training in the specifics of the ministry are held as the need arises.

Ushers

Ushers greet the parishioners as they arrive for Mass, assist with seating, arrange for persons to bring up the gifts at the Offertory, take the collection, assist persons with special needs, direct the Communion procession and distribute bulletins. They are the Church’s hospitality team and their warm, friendly smiles and welcoming handshake set the tone for the worship experience.

Ushers meet every second Sunday each month after mass.

Altar Servers

This is a special privilege and a wonderful way to respond to God's call for service to one another.  Altar Servers prepare the Altar and Sanctuary for Mass.  They  also  assist  the  Priest  and  Deacon  in  the  smooth  execution  of  the  proceedings  before  and  after  the  Mass.  The ministry is open to all youth of the parish who have made their First Communion.

Altar Servers meet every second Saturday each month at 3 p.m.

Prayer Group

The prayer group is engaged in prayer and fasting. Meetings are held on Wednesdays after the morning Mass.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion assist the Priest to prepare and distribute the bread and wine to the members during the Liturgy of the Eucharist. They also take the Eucharist to believers who are unable to attend Mass due to illness or disability, visit and pray for the sick, and keep shut-ins informed of daily activities of the church.

The Choir/Cantors/Musicians

Liturgical music is an integral part of our worship celebrations. Our senior and junior choirs present a unique and spiritual element that enables our congregation to lift up their voices in praise. Both choirs strive toward a common goal: to lead the congregation in sung prayer and to glorify God through the music they each produce.

The senior and junior choirs meet alternate Tuesdays at 7:00pm.

The Sacristans

The sacristans make sure that all of the preparations are made for the celebration of the Eucharist. Sacristans are responsible for seeing to the cleanliness of the sanctuary, dressing the altar and the sanctuary according to the seasons/cycles of the church calendar, ensuring adequate hosts, wine, and incense are available for each Mass and attending to all vessels used during the Mass.

Altar Guild

In this Ministry, the women of the Parish care for the linens, cloths, altar server albs, and decorations used in the Sanctuary. They also refill holy water fonts and replace candles.
